He 'ohana kakou a e ku ikaika kakou me

“We are all family and we stand strong”

Aloha to all NOA members, instructors and creators.
E Komo Mai - Welcome!!!
We welcome you into our ohana with the spirit of aloha and mana of Aunty Debbie Kakalia.
The start of NOA is a promise that we will all succeed in creating Aunty Debbie’s dream of perpetuating the art of Hawaiian Quilting as taught by her. We are here to continue her legacy in the process of passing on her teachings.
You are now a part of the most elite group of quilters in Japan and we are very proud to have you and your students in our ohana.
We have a very strong support system and you will always be protected and taken care of. We stick together, protect each other, support each other and speak kindly with respect towards one another. That is what Ohana is all about.
Few of Aunty Debbie’s saying was “What goes around comes around so when you live Aloha and teach Aloha it is contagious and it will come back to you“. She would always say “Don’t waste time with unkind words or have negative feelings towards anyone, treat everyone the way you would want to be treated yourself”. That is also the Aloha spirit. Share from your heart , give from the heart.
I wanted to say so much more to express my extreme gratitude to each and everyone of you who have made my family legacy a living dream but no words can express what I feel in my heart right now. Below I have given a few meanings of our pattern designs that will also help our Ohana to “pupukahi I holomua”

Translation: Unite to move forward.
Meaning: By working together we make progress.

. Like the Guava tree - “We stand strong and no wind can knock us down”Like the Taro - “We have strength in our health to push forward no matter what attacks us“.Like the Ulu - We can do nothing but progress further.Like the Mango - All of our dreams, hopes and prayers will come true.Like the Pineapple - We welcome everyone into our Ohana. (Hospitality)
We are one and we stand strong - We are Ohana.
E hui pu i ka helu 'ekahi - Join the best.
A hui ho Nalani Goard
